I never worried with my dog. She was found on the streets twice in her life (according to her records) literally eating trash. And she ate cat shit on the regular.

She once at a whole bag of M&Ms I didn't know she could reach (I did worry about that one and called for advice because that was more than just a small morsel).

Whatever I dropped wasn't big enough to cause harm I figured...and if she survived eating trash? Eh, she'd be cool.

Also, she ate rats. All but their heads (except for the eyeballs. She would eat those.)

Sasha knows I'm lazy and if anything falls on the floor she's gonna get it, so she gets to wait right outside the kitchen doorway if she wants to wait. Then I call her over if something spills or I toss her a piece of what I'm making across the room

 

This. I miss this a lot!

I dropped something the other night and thought, "Drat. I have to bend over and pick that up now that Dess isn't here!" I think it was a carrot or something the cats would be 5,000% uninterested in. Dess tho? If she saw it she ate first and asked questions later.

That's where all the pet food lives in our house.

When I had to keep the cat food out of Dessa's reach she still managed to find ways to get up there and get the darn food. That dog was ingenious. Stupid, but but ingenious at getting her mouth on food she wasn't supposed to have. I think she lived all her time with us in fear she would be without food, kind of like PTSD because she was a "street" doggie twice in her life.

My cats just walk all over my counters and force me to use clorox wipes all the time due to where their feet have been. I don't "let" them on the counter, I swat them down, but they are fast as lightening. (well, two are, Spencer is a GOOD BOY and does not get on my counters. The other two are little sneaks and get up there all the time.)

100% no way I'd let my puppy in the kitchen, he's highly food motivated. Plus I've seen him down an entire slice of pizza in one gulp, guy doesn't like chewing. The thought of him getting into actual trash is just blech. I'll save myself a costly vet visit by keeping him away from things he shouldn't have. It's kind of like corralling a toddler, in some ways. Dogs don't know what is bad for them, so you, as a human, have to make that decision to keep them from hurting themselves.

Ugh one of mine doesn't like to chew either He'll try to swallow a whole mouthful of dry kibble and choke himself, coughing and spraying dog food all over the room - then immediately try to eat it again. I watched so many doggy Heimlich videos when we first adopted him before we got him a slow feeder.
