ERCOT is the ISO for the whole of Texas. They are responsible for the reliability and balancing of the grid across the entire state. Bad luck.

This is happening across the country. The biggest ISO in the country, PJM, has put a bunch of their generators on alert for the next few days as well. I'm sure other grid operators are doing the same.

Oh I'm sure there are. We're lucky to have a wood stove but I know a lot of others that aren't. It just REALLY ups my anxiety and panic response so my hubs has to deal with it. He just loves it so much.

OMG IS IT DAN! THE DAN?! Glad you're alive.

 

I mean, I understand what happens in the control room and the decisions that are made...doesn't help my family at all when our distributor has to curtail load.

(I have visited ERCOT's control room and seen them going through operations. They have, what, 25 or 30 million customers, so they're a good sized ISO, although not the biggest. It's a really difficult decision, and nobody gets off easy.)

It's definitely a hard decision all the way around. At last count I believe it was 25 mil, but I could be wrong. Definitely one hell of a number. I bet that control room was something to see.

It really is impressive. They all are. I've been very fortunate to have toured almost every control room in the US, and it never gets old.

 

Oh man that is beyond cool. I can only imagine what those places look like trying to coordinate 25 million people. I have issues coordinating my 3 people.
