    Lol, unless that was agreed upon beforehand or there is paperwork indicating this to be the arrangement you have more than an infinite number of available options to tell this guy to pound sand.

    Also almost every major credit card has rental coverage on it in some form/fashion nowadays, ditto for most insurance policies to begin with.

    Make sure YOUR car gets out of there ASAP. Wont be long before the "storage fees" start racking up too.

    The Judge Judy in me says take your car elsewhere and unless you signed anything saying what the rental rates were, pay them the agreed price and let them try to get the extra from you in small claims. If you feel uncomfortable being assertive/confrontational (not a dig at you, but I'm terrible at sticking up for myself in person...more comfortable doing it in writing), write them a letter or email stating the above.

    Ah, dude that blows. My heart goes out to you. I had two major car issues last year that ended in me having to buy a new one unexpectedly.

    I hope you can continue to talk to them and work it out. Or atleast get that price lowered because for an older car with so many issues that seems steep for a rental. Best deal around me is $25 for a NEW car.

    Also, I won't assume how often you drive, but I got by for a month without a car, granted it was the longest month of my life. I just found it cheaper to buy friend's gas or food in exchange for quick rides. I also am walking distance from a few things since I'm in a city.

    Anyway, good luck! Car shit always sucks.

    You might be able to fight the entire charge since he provided an unsafe car. Are there any complaints against him with the BBB? Did you sign a contract on the rental?
