The way I grew up was like -- okay, you're 18. You're on your own. If you want to live at home still -- you better be employed and pay your share!

She wasn't getting hired there either...it's a tough world. Like I said, the best in Owensboro isn't really saying that much.

 

I dunno, given the way some 18 year olds behave nowadays it's a wonder they don't just like immediately starve to death if turned out on their own. Which is why we expect everyone to just go to college now.

Exactly. My parents' rule is you're either in school/college or working in order to live with them.

 

I was on my own at 15. My aunt gave me the boot. Maybe that's why I don't understand a lot about paying for your kids stuff until they're 25, but this is completely unacceptable.

 

Kids (i.e. young adults) will never learn how to be independent if they are never given the chance to completely fail and eat ramen for months and hustle to pay their rent..... just my opinion haha

 

people need to stop making higher education decisions based on intrest alone and think about what they need for an actual career. not saying intrests shouldn't be a consideration but it needs to be a practical decision as well. If you are learning about something with no practical application then there are free ways to do that you don't need to go into debt for a college degree

 

but that's where johnny depp is from, so surely she'll make it big like him too!

Well yeah your area is hermetically sealed off from the other living spaces because they won't want to inhale your crockpot fumes.

Actors Theater of Louisville is actually pretty fantastic! having known several Clemson folks who do nice work there.

I mean, she sounds like she suckkkks tho. I worked MANY a job doing rigging and light boards and gaffing and box office in regional theaters and I shut my damn trap and put my head down and got a paycheck cause...paying bills is cool. I was 23 credits shy of my PA degree (and I changed it up for health reasons, not for lack of employment) but HOOOOO BOY, you better friggen be prepared to take jobs you don't totally love if you wanna pay your bills and you def need to learn marketable skills besides performing or whatever in a theater. I know quite a few folks from my time who work in the marketing side/backstage/teaching/design/etc and they were all fully prepared for that eventuality cause it's a reality you accept if you're remotely realistic about your career path.

With that being said,

I know, and I appreciate it. I'm just really in shock. I promised my kids things that I will have to wait on. You know what they said? "Mom, if you can't afford it, we don't mind. It'll be ok" My eldest asked if he needed to pitch in financially. They were really sweet about it. No, we aren't having problems paying our regular bills, this is just a slap in the face.

 

My best day ever $63.37. (I typically turk 1 to 2 hours per day and not at all during the summer). I am never able to turk during "business hours". Even though today was a holiday for me from my office job I was able to turk a lot during the day today. I see I miss a lot by only being able to turk at night and on weekends.
