The JQ story is not drama. JQ was one of the kindest folks on MTG. Think of like @CorvusSapiens or any of the mods. Dude was just constantly answering questions 24/7/365 and hardly if ever giving people a hard time for asking "stupid" questions. He shared his scripts/etc and in the absolute shit cesspool that was MTG was just consistently nice as fuck to the majority of folks.

He was murdered IRL in a largely random act of violence. Drunk people arguing and a punch went wrong or something to that effect.

Forums/blogs can be semi-lucrative if you stick google ads on them all over the place. MTG only sold for $3,000 IIRC, and it was kinda scummy to fake the traffic data since at the time you had to pay real $ for "live update" (I was the first person to just make it free by default in any mturk community AFAIK) and so a lot of people f5'd the daily thread a fuckton which made the site look like it could be good revenue from ads lmao.

Best guess is shortly after buying it the original flippa buyer figured out they got bamboozled (lmaooooooo) and then dumped it on the russian in a similar shtick

That Russian dude was fucking great btw. Like legit no hard feelings against him or anything. But he also legitimately believed he could get 50,000 turkers on the forum every day

Now I just feel like shit thinking it was an interesting drama story and instead it's very sad and tragic.

 

Anyone remember the name of the guy from MTG who only did like ProductRNR (back when they were good), Ibotta, and barcodes? He lived in NYC and liked Gundam models.

No real reason he's just a guy I think about once in a while and I hope he's doing alright.
