Well you see, ice is a solid, unlike water which is a liquid. Solids can hold their form whereas liquids will not. Therefore, if this was done with a liquid such as water, milk, or ranch dressing (made with mayo), it would not work, unless said liquid was frozen by the forces of nature or our cold dead hearts.
