I've had a fire stick since they first came out. They did a promo thing where it was $10 or $15 off to pre-order so I got one. It's basically the same as what a smart tv does or ps3/4 or xbox does. Mine runs really hot and will desync the audio sometimes. For a while it did it all the time with netflix. I don't really use it at all anymore since I moved the ps3 to the other tv. I haven't tried sling tv at all.

tldr: I wasn't impressed as it's glorified smart tv apps.

I find that stick stuff like fire tv, roku, and chromecast to be completely worthless. They overheat like crazy, and randomly restarts and/or shutdown due to the heat. Better to just invest in a good TV with all the built in features you want. There seems to be a major lack in quality to these kinds of gadgets.

Except for the fact that after almost two years I think my smart tv has only had two updates. I never use the apps on it but use my fire stick or xbox one all the time.

 

I haven't ever had any issues with my chromecast or my built in 4k roku.. but if you are worried about stuff like that the best thing to do would be to buy a monitor (not a TV) and build or buy a HTPC.

 

Or just run kodi off fire stick. That's what I do.

 

Don't have masters so I didn't look at it much figured someone else might like it.

 

Seriously? I've never had my chromecast or roku restart..

I believe that roku also has kodi support... personally I use Plex and I have been able to use everything from a chromecast to a desktop as a client without any issues.
