So ask him why. Sit down and listen. Have more than one conversation. There's probably an issue, and it's possible he's not even fully aware of what is driving his decisions and needs to sort it out. be a sounding board, someone he can count on to listen to him and help him figure it out.

 

So he's a teenager?

 

Don't say this to him directly, even in anger.

Sure fire way to invalidate him and make him think you don't give a care about what's important to him.

His priorities are mucked up to you, but not to him.

 

In modern context this describes a 30 year old. lol
