Competent readers don't necessarily read word for word. Speed reading is taught by not reading things word for word. People learn to naturally read faster by not reading word for word. It's what competent readers have learned to do after reading hundreds of thousands of paragraphs in their days. When you hide a random ass word in a sentence - and it's not noticed, that doesn't prove they didn't read the paragraph and comprehend what they just read - it just means they didn't apple notice a hidden ass word in a sentence.
