Yeah I was annoyed by them too. Didn't occur to me they actually served a purpose

I think I've told this story before, but I was once at a couple's day thing where the boyfriend was trying to make his gf take a bite of his sandwich and she said, "I can't open my mouth that wide!" I blurted out, "My condolences, man!" and everyone laughed. He responded, "Oh, it's fine, I just have a really small penis." We all crack up, except his gf who is giving me a death stare.

His gf ran out of the room crying and then had a monumental fit. We had the most miserable drive home and as soon as we got back to our house, Matt goes, "Never. Hanging out. With them. Ever. Again."

The boyfriend was also fully barefoot in a bakery and walked across a gas station parking lot and into the gas station barefoot. shudder. never again.

 

That is a hilarious and odd story at the same time.
