    It focuses only on that one panda for a short period.

    Normally, the panda-accepting routine would be divided like this, if you had 3 pandas going: "Search for hit 1, search for hit 2, search for hit 3, back to 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, etc."

    Ham tries to accept only one specific hit for a short period, "Try for 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1", no trying for hits 2 or 3. Then, after a short period, it goes back to "1, 2, 3"

    Perma Ham goes "1, 1, 1, 1, 1, " until you turn it off, not just a short period, like regular ham.

    Edit: A practical usage of Ham would be when you have a good requester, and want their panda to briefly overwrite everything else.

    Let's say you have 2- $15/hr requesters, and one $100/hr requester:
    You could use ham here on the $100/hr to briefly pause the lesser-valued requesters and give priority to the higher value ones. After the initial Ham period, then it would go back to trying equally for all three.

    You can also use it liberally to give preference to new hits.
    Example: Add Ham to all RIDs over $35/hr. It will prioritize whichever was the last seen.
