    I often see shelters list longhaired tabbies as Maine Coons, just because they are tabbies. Extremely rare to find a purebred one in a shelter. Yours definitely looks like he could be a mix though. Does he make trilling and chirping noises? My Maine Coons have very soft meows and don't do so often. They mostly make the trilling and chirping noises. They are always greeting people or each other with those noises. He will definitely fill out. Mine took several years to reach their full maturity. My male at his highest weight was just over 16 pounds and my female 13 and half. My male is stocky while my female is long and lean, but muscular. My male's father was 25 pounds! My male unfortunately has a lot of the genetic issues that are common in Maine Coons. In that respect, mixed breeds are generally going to be healthier. Maine Coons and mixes generally do well in multi cat houses. I've got a younger female cat who was a feral and not socialized for the first year of her life and they get along great.
