That is what I thought and answered, however then I am sitting here going well what if the requester is using this as an AC. Does the requester suffer the same syndrome that some other requesters suffer from in that there is a lack of air/light in that claustrophobic environment in which that have placed their heads that requires incredible flexibility.

Yes, that kind of question drives me crazy. Is the requester imprecise, or is he being clever to trick me? I either think about it way too long, or I just return it.

On something like that, I answer and then leave a comment as to why it was confusing or I felt a certain way...

The worst questions that I see all the friggin' time are

    Please select option 1.

    And my radio button choices are 0 , 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5

I'm pretty sure they want me to pick 0 - but who the f knows

That is not an option, the field required a valid response of a numeric value, but I agree wholeheartedly.

You know I should have been wearing my tinfoil hat while taking that survey.

Yes it is a very poorly worded question, and if I am found in my bathroom floor curled up in the fetal position, bleeding from the ears, sobbing and repeating "how many letters, how many letters, how many letters," at least you all will know why.

Jeremy Wilmer, any hang ups for anyone? I could not get 2 pages to advance and they were both at the end of a section, one of many- so I just continued with the study, submitted and sent an email, thinking it was not fair to return a hit I had 45 minutes invested in...

I wouldn't waste your time with this one. He wants 5 pieces of information for each available plan for 64 different zip codes....the first zip code had 48 plans. I guess if you can set up macros and things it might go faster, but it seems stupid underpaid. I just threw it back, good luck to the poor soul who caught it.

I wonder if anybody has done a study of how analytical, or overanalytical, turkers are compared to the general population.

yes, I think so- if they say "select the first option", (or number)- it's 0 and if they select option 1, it's 1

Or it sucks when you see the -
decision making doesn't take place in a vacuum, a shit ton of people don't pay attention - to show you pay the fuck attention please write "I read the instructions" in the other box and continue to the next page. Yeah that's right, don't answer this shit, just write that you pay attention and continue to the next page

However, there's an entire page full of 20 actual survey questions to answer on this same page.

Yep 20 minutes later and I was thinking about so decided to share the experience and offer it up for debate.

Nope not a unicorn, and yep, email was sent right after submission requesting clarification.

I would love to see the results of that study, due to the sheer magnitude of the number of times we (turkers) encounter requesters trying to be 'cute' in their phrasings and having to infer from the obfuscation their 'cuteness' causes. I am trying to be nice with the descriptor of 'cute' and 'cuteness' since @ChrisTurk wants us to play nice, not take things to literal and be welcoming to requesters for the good of all and our wallets.

Neither does my mind, neither does my mind.

My mind hurts over that one as well, I just strongly disagree to the the though approach of zero actually being something.

The worst one I've ever seen had all of the options used in the paragraph organically, and double-attention checked it. "If you're reading this, select the word select. Not everybody reads the directions so we want to be sure we're getting valid data. Ignore what I said before, and select the word attention instead." But, I'm reading it, so I should select 'select'?? Instead of being an attention check, it was a damn trick question.
