That's WAY too high. Are you in South Carolina? Cause then that's astronomically high. I replaced one at my mom's house last year. I just looked up the number's for you. The warranty company was giving the runaround with the terrible provider they sent because he was struggling to fit it into the space that was there, so I called in someone else and billed the company. He was fantastic. Bought the Rheem water heater from Home Depot that he suggested- $571 - he picked it up himself and installed it for $200. So $771 in total. Get another quote for sure. I'm in the northeast, so you'd really be overpaying.

Edit - this is for a gas water heater, regular natural gas setup

It's pretty stupidly easy. I helped my wife's 80 year old grandfather do it. Unless you've got some weird ass waterheater setup, and you can manage to use a wrench you can probably get by with the heater and a youtube video ;)

Ask for an itemized quote? And it sounds like you might want to shop around to get more than one quote.

Electric.. 50gal tank.. so about as simple as it gets - just heavy as shit lol. First floor, in a nice closet, water lines are easy access (cpvc so easy enough to work w/ though not as nice as pex), has its own breaker box.. like.. gtfo w/ this $1,200 labor shit why are we being this wayyyyy :flail:
    .....:emoji_thinking:
Dude that Rheem is the one they quoted me! I want it - it has wifi :flail: LOL.

I generally avoid HD but the hot water heaters themselves were cheap & are fine enough for ratings so I called.. not impressed LOL. I thought that was gonna be about my cost, I figured $800-900.. but nope, $1,859 for that one installed. Suckers thought I just got a tax refund apparently :emoji_laughing::emoji_laughing::emoji_laughing:

.18 cents per for the sentence writing ones, 40 cents per for the picture judging ones, i think they're worth it but I dont have many closed quals to fall back on

oh and bonuses depending on how well you do on the sentence writing ones

That literally sounds like plug and play. You probably would spend the most time draining the old one and moving it out.

I can't say enough good things about that Rheem water heater. Like we never knew the water in the house could be this hot, it's amazing. But I certainly didn't use any of the HD contractors, they usually mark up. Sears is better if that's an option, but still a mark up. The guy I called to install is kind of a handyman with better than average plumbing and electrical skills. If you go closer to the handyman route, you'll save yourself money.

As for the weight of the water heater, I now own this, not sure it would help with your water heater because the size is so odd, but it's one of the best things I've bought, helps with all moving all sorts of heavy things.
