There was no announcement. He literally responded to a post I made about the baby with the pronoun she, which is how he announced he was having a girl to the forum. I thought I had missed an announcement but nope, that was it.

Also, we use fat in my family only because all of my aunties and uncles (and my mom) have always been big people and they called themselves fat all the time. Never knew it was offensive until I was an adult.

My kid just uses "big".

 

I honestly still don't think it's offensive. If you're waddling around at 300+ pounds there's no two ways about it, you're fat bucko.

Most of my family is pretty big. But my sister isn't exactly large, but not small either. She said something about gaining weight and my eldest son said "Well you're already fat" and from then on we don't talk about other people's weight. It's not worth the hurt feelings when yes they could stand to lose a few pounds, but it's not my kid's business.

 

I personally don't, either, but I do know many do...so I try not to use it.

I call myself fat all the time.

Ah, yes, my kid is pretty good at not commenting on other people's weight or anything about their appearances. Matter of fact, he gets mad when he hears it done at school and has gotten into trouble standing up for people being called what he considers names, or spoken to rudely.

He calls me on it sometimes when I'm not realizing what I'm saying.

Before you go praising him for this, he is a STICKLER for the "rules". To a degree where I have to work hard with him to be flexible and not such an a-hole when people "stray" from the "rules" a bit! It's sometimes a bad thing to be so into justice and fairness.

 

Well there really isn't anything left today that doesn't offend people ....
