The lawn is under water (not literally but as far as mowing purposes it might as well be 6' of water) and my veggies are wet and happy. I've already got all the laundry caught up, as well as the house work done, so I'm just gonna try to cuddle your face. There's nothing left to do other than that really.

mine uses my phone's service, it's the... previous model i guess? i just looked it up, the series 3. i live on hand-me-downs and used and refurbished things, but you're right, it's best to wait for the newest releases to upgrade. if you're putting that much money into something and it's something you'll keep for a long time, might as well throw a few extra bucks at it to get the best/newest version you can.

 

That's not a half bad plan there.

 

I mean, the thing is, a lot of trails have parallel trails, so I go the right direction but step onto the wrong trail. It's similar, but might lead me to a dead end or just eventually towards a different area. I usually realize, "hah, wow, this isn't right!" Or, I'm just hiking without a planned trail, but need to go back a certain direction, and some trails will dump you on a cliff or something, and you can SEE where you're supposed to be, but surprise! You now have to backtrack and find another way. I enjoy the freedom, but always plan extra time when I'm not following an exact route, cause I'll plan something out that looks fine from a sat map, but then doesn't quite work out the way you think once you're physically there. I have a breadcrumb trail that I can reference, so at worst, I can backtrack the right way, and I always have offline maps. But, nothing is perfect, especially outdoors, and trails do change over time (the PCT actually changes in distance a bit, because the trails change with changes in the terrain over time and the path moves around a bit). I got stuck on monday, because what used to be a clear trail now had a series of boulders in the way, and I did not feel like climbing my way out. It wasn't a big deal, just a scenic detour!

Also, in some places, everything kinda looks the same and there are trails too close together to really know 100% until you go a ways down. We followed a pre planned path on the garmin once, and there were a few paths so close together that the garmin could not figure out which was right until we got a quarter mile down the trail and they forked more.

 

That looks kinda intense.

speaking of veggies, my. cucumbers. keep. dying. what the fuck? cucumbers are like sunflowers for me, they're my thing. i throw them in the ground and they give me a billion beautiful things without me even trying. i'm at my wits end already. there are two local plant sales this weekend that i'll probably go to, so i'm hoping i can grab some from them and they'll do better... on my damn third try.

I like Hiking Project & Peakfinder, but Gaia was a meh for me, mostly cause I like my handheld garmin for sat maps, as it doesnt drain my phone battery. If I didn't use the handheld, would probably use it more. REI WAS SO JUDGING ME THE OTHER DAY THO WITH THIS AD!


EXCUSEEEEEE YOU, REI! I will eat my gummy worms till I die. It is the right of a hiker to eat as many gummy products as we damn well want! Hmmph!

 

That is so odd. I've never had a cucumber NOT grow and I can kill a cactus. You can pick up a cheap $10 soil tester from a lot of places that will at least let you know if the soil itself is the problem.

 

I just got a "no bueno1" popup on TurkerView. I assume that is supported to happen.
