Did Bezos raise the average pay for turkers to $15/hr? I keep seeing how great he is and how awesome working for Amazon is in the news.

I think it's direct employed people.

 

Imagine slaving away all day doing work on mturk at your normal pace and getting paid the same exact $15/hr as someone who works at half your speed. I hope regulations like that never touch mturk.

 

if you guys would just nut up and start hamming p9r's, you could hit 15/hr all day LONG.

Unless things have magically changed and there aren't hits that pay $.25/hr anymore, I'm sure things could be better for the average turker. I'm not saying they should literally pay everyone $15/hr here, but I think there should be something to insure people are properly compensated for their time.

 

Like, they should pay me $50/hr to procrastinate working on hits. My time means a lot to me whether or not I'm actually doing anything.

 

As a turker you're a contract worker. No one is forcing people to go out and choose work that pays $3/hr. There's plenty of things to do on the platform and still make a decent wage, just because someone tried mturk for two weeks and interviewed some well-intentioned but ignorant academic about how there's only $2/hr stuff available doesn't make it actually true.

 

It's too hard to implement. 20/hr to me might look like 5/hr to someone else with a less optimized set up and vice versa. Also, the platform thrives on the promise of cheap work to requesters. If something like that did happen, we would lose so much available work because people wouldn't want to post here anymore. It's not ideal, but it's how it is.
