Definitely cranberry and I'm leaning toward walnut (pecan would work too) for cheeseball. As for a custard, idk, I can't quite picture a raisin or a cranberry so I'll need to taste test those options. :p

Hah, naw! I can change tires, oil, brake pads, etc- I still bat my eyes until Matt does it. He's actually fairly competent in the kitchen if he puts his mind to it, since his Mom owned a restaurant and enslaved him growing up- he still doesn't feed himself.

I appreciate when he does things that I could do, but don't want to. Added bonus that I don't feel helpless when he's on the other side of the state, like he has been for the last few days.

They're not paying me enough to splurge on the good goat cheese, and a mediocre goat cheese just doesn't seem worth it. :p

If you need brie to startle people, aldi sells brie for 3$ give or take your location. We just picked some up to do a wrapped brie. Aldi also sells goat cheese for around the same price.

Have used both those for events, and nobody has ever noticed the diff.

I also just use those at home, tbh. I splurge on the super nice stuff from time to time, but the aldi version is what I go for 90% of the time.

And I know someone who claims to always know when it's aldi and refuses to eat it, yet always raves over my food and asks to come over any time I'm making a good meal. Matt-bot enjoyed ripping on him after months of this.

Exactly, sometimes it's WAY worth it for really nice things to splurge on the more expensive stuff, but if you're just eating it because you want it Aldi does just fine. Also, Aldi eggs. How does your do on meat? Ours is always near expiration and you need to use it that day or risk it just rotting the next.

THAT SOUNDS SO TASTY! You're making me want cheesecake now! I'm making a cinnamon bun layer cake for Matt-bot's birthday, and I think I'm gonna explode from the delicious experiments.

I think I finally nailed down a good cream cheese buttercream that isn't overly sweet!

We shop at aldi all the time for ourselves. I like everything I buy from there. Thus far, at least.

There is some stuff that sucks, and there are definitely higher quality versions of certain things, but 95% of the time, I've never had an issue with a lot of the nicer cheeses there and pantry items and stuff like that. Most of the time, I don't need a cheesemonger quality fontina, and the aldi fontina is gonna go with my flatbread just dandy without having a noticable diff from the same stuff I'd get at TJs or a nice grocery store.

Love some Aldi. The only thing I haven't liked is the Aldi version of Cheez-it crackers.

One of my locations is meh on meat, but the other one that's like 6 miles down the road has super nice meat and produce, and since I'm already driving 30-35 miles into town for errands once or twice a month, easy enough to just mosey there.

That location also has kerrygold for 2.85, which I covet.
