I tell people not to get me gifts, and if they feel absolutely compelled cash or taking me out to eat at a place I like are the safest things to do. Clothes are always a disaster since I'm very particular about what I wear, an ex bought me jewelry once and it caused a fight because my reaction wasn't how she imagined it would be. I don't eat junk food or candy or drink soda so all the typical birthday foods are a no go. I don't eat fast food either, my dad went through this phase where he bough everyone gift cards to fast food or chain restaurants and I always sold my cards other wise the money would be wasted. I'm always appreciative and thankful but I'm in my early 30s now and people have finally caught on to not buy me gifts.

I keep telling my husband if I say I need some clothing item don't go out and buy it if you want to be nice take me to get it and pay for it I'm to particular about material, length and how it fits across my chest but he doesn't always listen. He has gotten me some nice jewelry over the years but it tends to be stuff I would only were on really dressy occasions I would rather have something si8mpler I could wear more often but he tries.
