It probably moved to one of the platforms like upwork or freelancer where requestors expect you to bid on jobs and show your degrees and past work before you can do anything.

they bought appen or lionbridge one of those 3 that make you do 80hrs of unpaid training for 15/hr work

 

Man those are always the best though.

 

Well, there are a couple different takes:

The good: Budget changes or they were able to make their AI smart enough through machine learning to where they don't need mturk anymore. That is essentially what batch work is for the most part: We train AI so that they can do the work themselves automagically.

The bad: Mturk sucks (whether it's too many bad workers or the fee is too high) and they tried going to a different platform.

The ugly: The popularity of the old batches brought in a wave of idiots that spammed/scammed the hits and drove them off the platform.

There are sustainable replacements. They're just either closed and/or not talked about very often. The era of people waving a sign saying "BATCH HERE!!!" on the forums is definitely gone.

 

If you've ever done any hit that requires you to rate/judge the work of other Mturk users, you probably realize its the third one

 

Or any hit that makes you interact with other mturk workers at all.

I don't exactly turk anymore, but still hang around here because I'm still in the turkworld... But reading about turking sounds exhausting these days and I don't think I'd be able to crack it the way I used to.

 

I'm thinking thats a good thing.
