07/02 - Melting Monday

    Basically, we looked at the parcel map and the property lines on the map and they are very different than what the owner has staked out. He did not have the lines put down because he didn't wanna spend 800 bucks 6 years ago (it will easily cost twice as much now, yay), he's convinced the property lines go back the drainage ditch and we are pretty sure they don't, they've admitted the neighbors are USING THE LOT FOR THE HOUSE FOR A GARDEN AND KNOW IT'S NOT THEIR LAND- so we want very clear lines so they can't have a total meltdown when we ...ya know, put up a fence for the dogs and bye bye garden. The neighbors know, they basically just have been using it anyway, but there are about one bagiliion reasons why that's a horrible idea and I'm so excited to potentially start a relationship with my neighbors by politely asking them to stop using our yard cause we need the (not a lot of) flat space for a storage shed and the dogs to run around over there too...as would be our right, but you know people be crazy.

    Oh, and it looks like the neighbor's house is also quite literally on the lot. If the coordinates from the parcel map are correct, an entire corner of the neighbors house is just plopped onto our land. The guy who owns the cabin now also bought the lot next to it, and we think some fuckery went on bigtime and that someone didn't do their due dilligence, didn't do the lines as the crow flies (which is how our county goes), or flat out didn't give a damn about property lines and assumed the lot would never be bought.

    We knew the owner would flat out refuse to pay for it himself, even though it would be pretty reasonable since he's never had the lines drawn and that's pretty normal, so we are eating the cost...cause we lose that if we pull out before the inspection period is over...which may no longer be a thing that's happening because the owner is now freaking out about the land lines because it would essentially change the value of his house and we are pretty sure he knows he's blatantly lying to people and doesn't want to have to admit it. Our agents asked if I wanted a xanax yesteday , cause I about hit the floor. If the house wasn't spot on for what we need/a good commute for matt/a really good price for the size in the area (because the finished shop is a niche house thing and log cabins are harder to get a mortgage on) we wouldn't even be dealing with this level of fuckery.

    Our agents said if he's smart at all (or at least listens to his real estate agent), he'll roll over and play nice, cause he's ready to peace out for another state asap, can't afford his property tax, and will have to either drop his price again for folks who care less about property lines (and unpermitted retaining walls... and bathrooms that need to be redone, lmao) or be on the market a hell of a lot longer, which he just can't afford.

    I SAID THAT!

    We were looking at the plot, and Matt goes, "Hold on, pull up google maps."

    He started using some tool I didn't even know google maps had to block out the land while I pulled up the parcel map for our county and our agents said they should just hire us out to find land lines for people in the future.

    Oh yeah, that's a total cluster right there. You guys are totally right to get that straightened out before you go in, because that could either range from pretty easy, lets all agree to get along and fix it all like adults to a total shirt show later.

    In some states (not sure about Cali) that if you use the land for a long enough period of time and pay the property taxes on it - an no one complains, its YOURS. :flail:

    Not a problem here luckily. The sellers have been paying the taxes. The land will 100% be ours. We just have to boot the shitty neighbors.
