General use laptops aren't that expensive, but ones made for gaming tend to be, despite gaming laptops being a joke.

Ah good, thank you for not being sarcastic. I have a fragile ego lol.

I do know enough to fix it. The dc jack on dell xps were shit, so I've taken this one apart more times than I can count. It ends up being the cost of the parts that makes it worth it. On this machine, they've replaced the dvd-rw 2 times, the screen 1 time, the harddrive 2 times, the keyboard 2 times, the palm rest 1 time, the plastic housing of the unit 1 time, the screen bezel 1 time, and the mother board 1 time. I'm gonna say my $400 warranty has paid for itself lol.

It's why I won't buy anything but dell, because I know I can trust them to actually honor their warranties. I legit punched my keyboard once in anger and it dented and they fixed it. They once told me I could run over my computer with my car and as long as the part with the serial number was legible, they'd replace it.

I kinda regret not going for the i7 in mine but my i5 gets the job done as far as work (and that's what I needed when the cats borked my last laptop) and runs most games fairly well. I spent like 550 on it in the winter and it works well. It helps that I have the ultrawide and such in my office and I wish I could have thrown a bit more money down at the time but I've never once had an actual problem with it.

That basically has all the same specs as mine except a slightly nicer video card and screen. For what I paid for it, my laptop is a serious little trooper!

No no no, you have it all wrong! The key is to get a good man to provide for all your needs so you can work half as much for shoes that are twice as nice.

ikr and by the time you get one with decent hardware they are heavy. That is why I am a strong supporter of the ultrabook style / chromebook ect laptop + desktop unless you really need to be able to game remotely. You can still use your desktop as a workstation remotely as long as you have a internet connection as well.

Any laptop over 3lbs imho. And the one linked was 5.5lbs

Stuff like chromebooks have better battery life AND are lighter.

Outside of trudging around campus back in the day, the 5.5 pounds of my laptop has never bothered me when I'm just putting it in the car and taking it to a meeting or travelling or whatever. Or even, GASP, taking it to the living room!

I mean, shit, it's lighter than carrying a desktop around with me. :emoji_joy:

In all my years working and being married (or a serious relationship) I have learned you can only depend on yourself. Oh course now I have a man who helps (the other 2 exes sucked and didn't help at all) but I don't need it. :)

Even ignoring the weight you still will have to deal with battery life that is a lot worse than a cheapo chromebook.
