I woke up late and super sad about my doggie. I keep watching her and she's still super peppy and full of bounce. She can't get up on my bed to sleep with me at night any longer, she can make it as far as the trunk at the end of my bed but for some reason can't make it over the footboard. If I put her on the bed with me, when she has to get off in the middle of the night she struggles, so I let her sleep in her crate.

I just can't imagine this energetic, needy, pain in the ass of a dog not being with us any longer.

Found out my kid thought she had far less time than I did so he's not as crushed by finding out she's got such a short time left with us.

I won't get another dog when she's gone.

She's over 14 years old. Part dachshund and part unknown. There's not much they can do to fix this. We have her on a special diet now and it's early stage kidney disease so it could be up to a year .We adopted her from a shelter when she was 5.

She also has a loose tooth but the vet has said she's not sure she wants to put her under to pull it because of the kidney issues. That as long as she's able to eat fine (she can) and doesn't appear to be in pain (she doesn't) we should just leave it be.
