I'll move it back when my longer cord gets here. I ended up restarting my damn computer because it's so laggy!

The price difference is soooo small though. It is easier to go overkill for a few bucks more than have to deal with stuff being outdated down the line.

Although if you are really worried about that you would run fiber lol.

If you're running cat7 properly you need to do a lot of grounding shit and need special fancy connectors that it's really just easier to go with cat6 unless you know you need cat7 for something. which you honestly probably don't ;)

thanks all. I'm not rewiring anything. Just looking for a longer cord to get from router to office. Just wanted some 'forwards compatibility' (thanks couldn't figure out the word for that) I'm case I ever end up with a) a computer that can handle it and b) and apartment/house that wasn't built in the 60s and never updated

Isn't the grounding requirement for cat7 only if you run POE?

I still would rather run cat7 than deal with fiber though. That stuff is a pain unless you just get premade cables.

Lol yeah and even cat5e is good enough for gigabit until you get past 100m?

If you don't know what we are talking about here you are running gigabit or slower on your network stuff. (some of the old shitty switches that people have are only 10/100 instead of 10/100/1000 :flail:)
