I'd first consider what state you live in. If the local government doesn't hate science and it seems reasonably safe....ask yo'kids!

 

I don't trust my state or school but I have a greater problem than that...it's my sons senior year and he's a football player and he's basically told us he is no way shape or form is doing virtual learning and he will legit move in with someone else if we sign him up for that.

My daughter is a poor student and virtual learning for her means she sleeps all day and doesn't do anything, most of the time she does nothing at school...so if I sign them up for that I probably have 2 kids that fail everything or I send them to school where they may get corona, I feel like it's a lose lose.

 

Tough to give an answer. Depends on what cases are like in your area and what's the greatest risk for your family: exposure to COVID vs. will the kids actually do the work in a virtual setting?

We chose to send my kid back on campus because two classes he needs are not offered in the virtual academy and my kid is freaking anal and humongous so he will scare people into staying away from him and will never take his mask off unless he's shoving food in his face. However, even those of us who chose on campus are starting out with distance learning (totally different program than the virtual academy they offered) so my kid will hopefully get his classes (schedules aren't out yet) but won't be on campus until, at the utmost earliest, October, and we aren't even sure then.

I will say my kid's school has been amazing about protecting students and staff the few times we have had to be on campus since this all started and I have great faith in them in regards to doing what it takes to keep kids and teachers safe if they ever go back on campus. If I didn't have this trust...don't think I'd send him back.

(Also, this decision was made with my kid, I didn't make it for him, and after talking to like 10 other parents I know who are in the same situation as me and attending online forums with the district and yadda yadda yadda....so...not just me making it all on my own.)

My wife has a history of pretty serious kidney issues so I have concern but I also feel like I'm stuck without a choice because of my previous post.

 

You are in a very, very, very tough situation.

Can you look at another option: Not letting your kids back on campus to protect your wife AND hiring a tutor (in whatever safe manner that is possible?)

Here, if a kid chooses virtual learning they can still participate in all sports...which might be mildly less risky since most practices and games will be outside. Just don't let your kid go in a weight room to condition. Do they offer that there?

Maybe a hybrid approach would work best for you since you have a very high risk person but you also have to make sure your kids don't flunk out and aren't mentally losing their minds not seeing people.
