Random story time with Birb.

I'm not close with my family. I left for school and basically did not come back, blah blah blah. Anyway, my freshman dorm had just TONS of palmetto bugs that would end up in my room, often on my ceiling at night. It made me so anxious, I couldn't sleep well because of the increasing anxiety after one did, in fact, land on me while I was half asleep (lets not even get into the one that was in the pocket of my hoodie when I put it on...wtf). Palmetto bugs are roaches with wings...shudder. I call my dad to cry about it out of extreme distress, expecting him to brush me off, and he calmly tells me to wait a couple weeks for thanksgiving break, he will sort things out.

Dude shows up after everyone has left campus but me and a few stragglers, with commerical grade bug murder juice (which we were not allowed to have in my dorm lol) and he proceeds to get every vent and doorway and goes up and down the staircases. He then gives me a disguised bottle, tells me to keep up with it every few months.

The rest of my dorm continued to have problems, but my hall was mysteriously spared. I guess we'll never know why! Except everyone on my hall 100% realized it was me, because of course it was lol.

 

Dont fault her for that. It has nothing to do with age... I literally have screamed, run out of rooms, run out of my apartment, Jumped on furniture while screaming and have thrown things at spiders. It can be a real fear that is not laughable.. well after it is dead and I realize that I am standing on the kitchen table, then yeah it is laughable for me.

 

But what do you do if you are by yourself? She flips out about pretty much any bugs so it goes back and forth between is this fear or a game it's honestly hard to tell at times.

I usually try to rescue spiders in the house, or they get murdered by cats, solely because I've grown to appreciate that spiders eat bugs I hate even more (lots of flies in the desert), but I still shriek and whine the entire time I've trapped it in a cup and I'm hauling ass out of the house with it. That's the highest level of spider zen I've been able to achieve.

has learned to come running in if he hears me shriek at a certain pitch, because he knows that it's mama scared of bugs time, and he will eat whatever it is like the feral boy he is

 

I have learned to buy shit ton of different bug sprays. I spray repellents around my windows and doors regularly, and I have 2 fly swatters in Every room.

Even I struggle a bit with that one.

 

I'm the same way @t0nja. I know that it's not rational, but I'm just afraid of them on a deep, visceral level! I live alone, so there's no one to come and get rid of bugs/spiders for me but having a bug zapper has been a lifesaver because you don't have to get super close to kill them. Maybe your daughter could try that @Mecca?
