I have found my gas water heater to be way more efficient than the electric ones had been for me. That may be partially due to the gas one being newer and whatnot too though, but it definitely saved $$ when it comes to hot water and the like.

 

I'd be in the town provider as well. I do remember when we had gas head in tanks, I think it was cheaper than electricity, but this is legit 10 years ago and I have no real recollection. All I know is I paid about 950 per year for the whole year regardless of how much we needed. Electric seems like it was more in monthly payments, but the only thing we could run on propane was our heat - our stove was electric *yuck*

Yeah, it's been different from town to town. Down here, we just "know a guy," and I think we paid half as much as everyone else because our friend owns half the town and told him to give us the good ol' family discount. Not complaining! Outside of a stovetop range, I'd use whatever was most cost efficient for my area.
