When I was a wee lad, my dad made pepperjack grilled cheese with hamburger pickles on them. Top notch

I’ll make grilled cheese with just about any cheese, but I make this carrot tomato soup and make havarti-fresh mozzarella grilled cheese to dip it in. So good.

Incidentally, I know what I want to make for dinner next week.

I remember the first time I ever had Texas Toast. It was at a steakhouse, I was maybe 5 or 6. Buttery bread toasted on a griddle. Sooo good.
I also remember my first real grilled cheese done in the skillet like it should be. Not that sad grilled cheese my mom used to make by slapping a slice of american between two slices of bread and dotting it with butter before shoving in in the toaster oven.

Pepperjack is one of those things everyone around me seems to like, but I thought was DISGUSTING when I first tried it as a kid.

I've found that now that I'm 27 (28 this month, gulp) there are a ton of foods that I have "ewwwww" reactions to from when I was way pickier as a kid trying them, that I now really enjoy if I try them.

tl;dr, maybe I'll give something like that another go.

There was stuff I didn't like as a kid, mostly because I basically just copied my older sister. My sister would get something without mustard or onions because she didn't like them, so I assumed I didn't like them either - and would also avoid it.

But now as an adult, mustard, onions, and all the shit I once hated - I like.

I don't like mushrooms though...... I'll eat them, but I would never buy them or put them on anything I'm cooking.

I used to eat tomato soup when I was little. I hadn't had any for years and tried it again a couple years ago. It was disgusting. I don't know why I used to eat it.:emoji_confused:

Yeah, I've had a lot of breakthroughs like that too. I'm starting to get to the point where I've stopped assuming I dislike anything, lol. If it's offered to me, I'll try it with an open mind. Within reason.

Um, just out of curoiosity, has anyone had Texas toast actually in Texas? Because the only time I remember seeing Texas toast was some extra thick sliced bread made by Borden's or some shit.

A lot of the foods I violently disliked as a kid were either foods I have mild allergies to (I get rashy) or foods my gi disorder makes it hard to digest. When I tried some of them as an adult, I had a rude awakening. Turns out I hate shrimp because it turns me head to toe red lmao.

Whataburger serves Texas toast with the chicken strip meal. They even give you some white gravy on the side.

Dude same. I don't have BAD food allergies. Nothing deadly. But I have irritation from most raw fresh fruit and veggies, which sucks ass.

Something to do with cross allergen from my seasonal allergies (which are going ham lately, just finally waning).

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_toast

Here. The origins. It’s an extra thick sliced bread that is commonly topped with butter and garlic, etc etc etc. often used to soak things up in meals, etc etc etc
