"The present study investigated misrepresentation on MTurk, with a specific interest in the prevalence of misrepresentation even with recommended best practices for improving data quality in MTurk studies in place. We examined two forms of misrepresentation: claiming false experience with a fictional “bogus” item, and a shift between a prescreen and main study in two indicators (i.e., age and hiring experience). Results indicated that depending on the indicator and the threshold for defining misrepresentation, 2.2% to 28% of participants misrepresented their qualifications, even after utilizing other best practices to ensure data quality. ...

Okay, I'll dive in a little on this quote here because it contains their gotcha headline from their abstract which is the figure of 28% misrepresentation.

"Nineteen (of 544) main study participants (3.5%) reported a different and implausible age in the main study versus prescreen, and 153 (28%) reported different hiring experience in the main study versus prescreen. Specifically, 104 (19.1%) changed from full to partial hiring authority"

So you mean to tell me that over 19% of the supposed 28% people misrepresenting themselves simply changed their answer from having full hiring authority to partial? And that this study was done a month after the pre-qualifier that they pulled the first answer from? first of all, where does one draw the line in the sand from partial to full hiring authority? I can personally say that in my position that both of those statements would be true about my hiring ability. I would say that using such ambiguous terms would mean that that is also true for many other workers. Whose to say that someone in my position looking at these ambiguous terms that both apply to them simply answered the question, still correctly and honestly I might add, a different way when asked and thinking about it again a month later? The researchers here were intentionally deceitful and used ambiguous terms to achieve their desired result and we are the ones misleading people? GTFO
