I give some of the credit to the work being moved to other platforms, as well. The more platforms that pop up, the more distributed the work is going to be. It's kind of a pain in the butt because I'm having to log into all three in order to do what I was doing on one.

I'm definitely doing a lot better on Prolific than I am on MTurk these days. The prescreeners are worth doing. It's not so much the quantity over there, but I usually catch a handful of $5-10 tasks a week in addition to the usual suspect.

I feel it's ultimately all demographic based. Also I don't think thousands of universities are jumping ship from a streamlined mturk IRB approval process. Of course recent events always give for a boost in a specific topic, like covid, the election, and this war.

If you go on a place like reddit you will see the difference of people wanting to be spoonfed free survey money and quiet ones looking for batches. Because one guy will post about the $15/day slow day, and the other one who posts a $5000 week gets downvoted because he's not "sharing" . When he posts those images he gets flooded with DM's asking what requester. We all have access to the same HITs page, but we all use different methods to find quals, screeners, and etc. That's why I like this forum more than any, it's a small tighter knit community that takes a light hearted approach to turking and more than helpful to the other users who find out about it. I hope this never turns into a place like reddit.

You make some really great points here. I couldn't agree more about this forum and also about the amount of effort a person puts in to qualify themselves for work outside of surveys since demographics do seem to rule when it comes to those. That's something that is out of a person's control, but yes, there is work out there if you do your due diligence.

Edited to add: I never thought about the drop in surveys due to the pandemic starting to peter out.
