when i was in elementary school, we had to write an essay about columbus. little jessers, being a fan of the encyclopedia and library, included terms such as "rape and pillage". my teacher sent it home with a note saying i had to re-write it as it was "not the version she was teaching." og fake news i guess.

all i remember is my dad telling me i was right and not to feel bad, and he hung it up on the fridge then mostly re-wrote it for me

Kids don't realize how much work it was to write an essay out by hand. The worst was having to write it all over again because the teacher made you do a "final draft". Or having to rewrite it all over gain just because you forgot to double space a line or indent a paragraph.

 

Fuck drafts. I never did them. I'm not writing the same garbage twice!

 

Lol I was the same exact way. But I had one teacher who would mark all of our rough drafts up with a stupid red pen. So there was no way around it in that class.
