While it's true, it's not relevant here.
I forgot that the only style attribute I was changing per element was the display.

The aside I wrote applies to when you want to change multiple style attributes of a single element (rather than a single attribute of multiple elements). So for example, if you wanted to change the color, size, and font of a paragraph, you should do it all in one line if you care about performance. This will give you one render instead of three.

Dealing with changes in "single attributes of multiple elements" and making that use case performant is the reason that React (the Javascript library that powers the new Worker site) exists. It's the reason that the Worker site updates the timer by removing the timer entirely every second and reinserting a copy with different text. Because as messed up as it is, in modern browsers, it's faster to just delete the element entirely and replace it with a new one than it is to go in and change the text inside of an existing element.
