see herein lies a somewhat major issue ive taken up with a few requesters about "english" attention checks.
not everyone in the US speaks the same "english". my great-grandmother called her scarves "comforters" and she lived in Kentucky almost all of her nearly 100 years. and the aubergine/eggplant thing can also be a somewhat skewed thing since i knew someone that had grandparents from Australia and they called it an aubergine, their parents were born in the US, THEY were born in the us, but since the grandparents said it, then the parents said it, they picked it up that way. attention checks of that sort (or even the bitten by a shark/granola at the 4th of july) are seriously gross misrepresentations where just because YOU think its not a thing, that its not valid. if there are attention checks there needs to be hard attention checks, ie CHOOSE LETTER B, 6+6=_, don't throw in something that could actually be shown that your attention check is bullshit

I agree. I think including unnecessarily ambiguous attention / bot checks is bad practice and in some cases even makes the participant sample less random.

 

The shark one is the one that tweaks my melon. My best friend would fail that check due to a cage dive in FL in 2004. Still has the bite and stitch scars on his hand.

 

I'm more concerned about that one weirdo who really likes to eat granola on 4th of July.
