I do appetizers all day and turkey at night. I mean, we're talking cheese plates, lamb kebabs, dips, fried mac and cheese balls, etc.

It's a feast. And then Thanksgiving has spicy turkey (I smoked it wrapped in bacon last year with cajun spices) and bolognese sauce. Yes, sauce.

Otherwise it ain't the day of Turkeys.

We have a lot of leftovers.

I.... do not like turkey.

But holy moley, the POUNDS of garlic smashed potatoes, Sicilian stuffing, and green bean casserole I make/consume.

Throw it all on some bread with gravy over the next week and you've got yourself some next-level sandwiches.

Yum! I do traditional roast Amish turkey, Leah Chase style (unless my dad is here, which he's usually only here for Christmas... he'll sometimes fry a turkey, or cook it in an oil-less fryer). Dirty rice (South Louisiana rice dressing), cornbread dressing, traditional stuffing (because yankee inlaws), sweet potato something, veggie something (that no one ever eats because everyone wants bird and carbs), jalapeno cream corn - or sometimes maque choux, boozy carrots, mashed potatoes, gravy, some kind of roll, fruit salad, some kind of pie, spice cake, berry cobbler. No one in my family likes cranberry, but I think I'm gonna make some cranberry and orange something or other to try this year. Oh, and the eldest kid makes deviled eggs too. If my mom is here she makes potato salad (mustardy eggy one).

So I'm lost if I missed out on ordering, because I have no clue what kind of store-bought bird will hold a candle to an Amish bird. I may have to resort to a gumbo Thanksgiving... but I like seafood for that, and now I'm midwest landlocked. Maybe Cornish hens?

 

So... California, eh?

 

Honestly, I cannot 100% confirm that is where I'll be come thanksgiving.
