I dunno, in real-world tests, RAM speeds are barely ever a bottleneck.

... as long as you're taking advantage of the benefits of multi-channel RAM.

My 3930K desktop has 4 different memory channels.

 

Yeah, it's just some slight annoyances here and there, but nothing too bad if I just keep it to one task at a time which isn't an issue being an HTPC and all. I wouldn't be overburdening the parts I'd want to use in a new build if I keep using it, though, would I? And what specifically should I be looking out for in an HTPC build? I want to continue using a Windows box, because I just like the flexibility of what I can do with it.

 

Never mind on that post ^. Looks like you guys might be talking about the difference in SIGNIFICANTLY slower RAM, rather than nitpicks over 1666/2000/etc. Haven't follow the whole convo.

Lol yeah Ryzen is one of the few chipsets that ram speed makes a decent amount of difference and he obviously isn't on Ryzen. DDR2 is just old and slow enough to make a difference.

Man, I've been reading and trying to follow along in between HITs but this is definitely some bizarro crap. As long as a PC is fast enough it doesn't really matter what it has. That PC is just kind of old.
