    My husband always had dogs growing up so he is experienced in this but Beau was my first dog. My husband is devastated too but his parents would always go out and get a new dog right away so that’s what he’s used to. My mom and I only had cats two of which I brought home off the street and when one went we didn’t get another for years because we were so heartbroken. Right now I’m going back and forth between wanting to fill the void with another dog and never wanting another pet so I never have to feel this pain again. Plus with a new baby in the house it’s not a good time for a new pet and I know that but damn if I don’t want to go adopt another little pomernian or get a kitty for my 6 year old son who cried and told Beau “I’ll miss you” before he left for school this morning.

    Ahh, gotchya. Yeah, I can definitely see how that would help. One of my favorite speedrunners plays some DDR on a SNES controller to warm up before his runs lol.

    Ooh, that SM chart is right around my skill level, albeit a little gimmicky with the BPM changes. :p And his noteskin choice is atrocious, gah. Damn good song though, grabbed the simfile and installed it to see how it goes in a min. Sweet.

    Another option is fostering. You can help like a new momma animal by keeping her and her babies out of the shelter until they are old enough to adopt. That way you dont have a long term commitment and you wont have to feel bad if you dont get attached. My parents used to always go out and get another dog if one passed as well.
    You do want to give everyone time to grieve before you get another pet tho. And when/if you do decide to get another dog, think of it as honoring his memory by saving another dog, and less of filling the void. You will never replace him but you can always help another less fortunate animal.

    Fostering is how you end up with a bunch of animals. Fair warning. I used to foster quite a few and currently have 2 that I just decided to keep.

    I don't 100% know the whole story because I've been working too much today to be social, but I'm so so sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is never easy. What you said reminded me so much of my parents, the "never wanting another pet so you don't have to feel that pain again" part. They've said that 3 times now (without any mention of part of them wanting another), and 3 new dogs have came into their lives since then. The newest came only two weeks after my mom lost her "heart" dog. You will know when and if you're ready. If it's really soon, don't feel bad or like you're replacing the pet you lost. And if it's not for a long time (or even never), don't beat yourself up for taking your time.
