Every motherboard has a limit to how much memory it can utilize, so we can't exactly answer this question without knowing the precise motherboard you're using. Just because it fits in the slot doesn't mean that the motherboard will use it in the most efficient manner.

 

Your laptop motherboard might only support so much ram. Honestly it would just be more expensive than it would be worth with the current DRAM prices. 8gigs of ram (that is what you said that you have currently) should be plenty of ram.

The only time I could see more ram being useful enough to be worth it is if you do a heavy multi tab batch that serves big files like rekogs.

 

Gotcha. Thanks. I was watching a YouTube upgrade for my exact computer so I wondered if it would help Turking with more RAM.

 

What would help for sure is a 2nd monitor if you don't already

You can plug at least one extra monitor into just about any laptop with most being able to support two. If you have a more recent laptop it may even be able to support three monitors but you would want to check before you go crazy lol.

It really depends on what you do. If you watch twitch or do other stuff at the same time you can totally use tons of ram. I have nearly used all of my ram (24GB) a few times but 8GB would be plenty if I only did mturk stuff.

 

Yeah, I get that. Her question was initially about a computer mostly for Turking purposes.

My current rig would be overkill for most, even though it's almost a 7 year old computer, a Dell XPS with an Intel i7-2600 processor & 16 GB of memory.... but I'm running my Plex Media Server on the same system that I Turk from, and most of the time I can handle 3 transcoding streams and still turk without affecting my family who are watching off from it. I'm saving my turking money to separate the two, eventually. Black Friday & Cyber Monday are near, and I'm sure that'll set back my funds. Right now I'm strongly considering building my system from scratch with an i7-7820X processor.

 

I'm waiting for the GPU market to stop being retarded and then I'll build a threadripper computer.
