We have prime, so that's good. I think he would use it for music the most. Don't you have to buy additional things to hook up lights, theromostat, ect? And would he be able to hook it up at home and then take it to work and use it?

 

I don't have a dot, so I don't know how much different it is than an echo. I'm not sure what it can and can't do compared to the echo. (I think they're practically the same though)

Yes, in order to have a smart home like thermostat etc you have to buy additional things.

He can hook it up at home and take it to work with him as well, as long as he has the internet at work of course.

Also one of my favorite features is that it can give you the weather. "Alexa, is it going to rain on tuesday?"

 

I'm sort of a Google fanboy, but I plan on picking up a Google Home by Christmas. I know it's not as feature-rich as the Echo right now, but I'm going to enjoy the Chromecast/Xbox One connectivity, and I'm curious to what the community is going to develop once the API goes public soon.
