Tried. She wont' wear the. She chewed them off. She won't use puppy pads. She won't even ASK to go outside. She just walks around the house pacing (which she does a lot) then pees where you can't see her (like on the other side of the couch from where I'm sitting).

I know it's her disease, but honestly? I can't keep doing this. I have to sleep. I have to have carpet that doesn't get peed on 3xs per day.

I could go on about the other things she's destroyed (like the wooden footboard of my bed. Unless I take it outside, sand it down to get out all the gouges, and stain it's just going to stay that way forever.) There's more. A lot more. but I know the general consensus is when you get a dog you have to deal with this end of life destruction and needing 24.7 care. But we have for a year now and we just can't any longer.

 

I'm so sorry. I wish there was something we could do for you. I know y'all wanted one more holiday with her, but it may be time. I know y'all don't want her stressed, and she can pick up on your distress as well. I'm so sorry.

I know this sounds like I'm a terrible callous human but I had hoped her diseases would progress the way the vet said they usually do, to the point where it's obvious it's time and not this....wondering if I'm being the biggest ash hole on the planet by taking her in.

And yes, she picks up on my distress. I'm really not super nice when I'm woken up 3 times per night. But it's apparently to the point where I sleep through some of the times now. When I do wake up I have to go outside with her to make sure she pees as she will go out there then just, forget?, what she's supposed to do unless I carry her to her pee spot and put her down. Which I do. Because I love her, I do, but this is not easy.
