    It does seem to be a good approach for many. Maybe for the style of most turkers around here, who obviously are very skilled at using it to their best advantage. But I'm a goofball, and appreciate the occasional comment about how the HIT made one 'feel'. :afraid:

    Heya people who cook things and stuff... Husband still can't use hand from surgery Friday and he is the chef in the house. We don't have family here in Maine so we do a "Friendsgiving" about 12 years running for folks "from away" and we have been assigned the mashed potatoes and hors d'oeuvres.

    The friend who usually brings the mashed potatoes is out of town and she typically makes Bleu Cheese Mashed potatoes (which sounds gross but are a big fave).

    1) Anyone have any killer mashed potato recipes that are easy (plz don't just say smash some potatoes. Because that is what I am thinking of doing. Can you use a hammer?)

    2) EASY hors d'oeuvres recipes?

    I've got no experience with this so will be flailing for sure.

    No recipe, but my recommendation for mashed potatoes is add as much dairy as you can cram in there - butter, cream cheese, milk, cheese - the more the better.

    So.... just boil potatoes (for ? time), beat them with hammer and stir in some milk, cream cheese and butter? Will that work?

    If you have a blender or food processor, just put everything in with your potatoes and blend/mash.

    1) my go-to mashed potatoes is just boiling red potatoes, draining, adding a metric frickton of butter, cream, and cheese, and mashing the crap out of it, skin and all. there are much better ways to make them, but that's what i grew up doing and still do. yellow potatoes are good for that too, i just like red personally.

    2) charcuterie board? no shame in buying it and just throwing it all down.

    I was rooting through the cupboards and we have one of those hand held dealios with the two beater thingys... will that work?

    if you boil them until they're soft (poke them with a fork to tell), you can mash them with just about any blunt object, if you don't have a potato masher

    That'd be my general approach.
    I like 'em with lumps so I'd leave the skin on and mash by hand, but if you want creamy you can use an electric beaters. As an aside, I definitely did not read that as hand held "dealios" at first.. :oops:

    Oooh I didn't even think of charcuterie board. I can do the heck out of that. Also LOVE red potatoes. This may be the winner so far. I didn't know you could put cream cheese in so that's also a great idea from @purplepotato
