So the tree can't fall over should a cat try and climb it.

I would anchor it to a wall, but that whole wall is window, lol. So they go to the screw that holds the locking mechanism on my 1940s metal windows :)

Honestly, the strings aren't that visible. Can only see them from the angle I took the pic and that is from my front door. Once you come into my house, you don't notice them. If that light is off they're almost invisible. Because my entire living room is that boring cream color. Kept meaning to get curtains with color, but that front window is so damn big I have to custom order a window rod and it took all I had to screw those damn blinds into cement block.

i actually thought about doing the anchoring to a wall thing after a 14 foot Christmas tree fell on me while i was taking a nap on the couch -- went for the stacking 50lb weight plates on the tree stand instead :)

    That works!

My best friend's huge tree fell over last year, too. They have a vaulted ceiling and buy the biggest trees. They kept telling her hubby it was leaning, he said it was fine, then one day they heard a ginormous crash. Down was the tree.

Well, both cats have sniffed the tree, decided it clearly smells like the garage and cardboard, thus fake, so it's boring and they've moved on. We have five trees in our back yard that they climb regularly so they don't need no stinkin' fake tree. (and I hang ornaments high...the bottom of my tree has garland and bows, lol, no dangly bits to attract curious kitties.)
