Let's say you're submitting CIs at $12/hr before CAPTCHAs come into play.

That's $0.20 per minute, which is 20 submissions per minute, since they're penny HITs.

This comes out to 1 submission every 3 seconds.

Now, let's say that you get a CAPTCHA once every 35 submissions (which would be once every 105 seconds, given the $12/hr. earnings for the chain: 35 x 3 = 105).

We'll figure that it takes, I dunno, 7 seconds to recognize the CAPTCHA, type it, submit it, and get the next page ready to work on. Not the fastest, probably not the slowest. Probably around average.

Alright, so in this scenario, every 105 seconds, we're adding an extra 7 seconds to the time it takes us to continue the work, going from 105 seconds (1.75 minutes) per $0.35 to 112 seconds (~1.87 minutes) per $0.35.

Just for funsies, let's add an extra 3-second penalty to the first HIT you do after a CAPTCHA, to accomodate for your brain having to switch gears and being a little slower on the first HIT coming back from entering the CAPTCHA. So now we're at 115 seconds (1.92 minutes) vs 105 seconds (1.75 minutes) for $0.35.

$0.35/1.92min ~= $0.18/min ~= $10.94/hr.
$0.35/1.75min = $0.20/min = $12.00/hr. (We already knew this because it was a given, but here for sake of comparison)

So given some fairly reasonable parameters for how often CAPTCHAs pop up and how long they take to complete, you're looking at losing $1.06/hr. (~ 9%) due to CAPTCHAs if you otherwise complete a penny HIT at $12/hr (and fit the other fairly reasonable datapoints regarding how long it takes you to complete the CAPTCHA and have your mind shift gears).

As the value-per-HIT goes up, this wage impact from CAPTCHAs becomes even less and less significant, since you buffer more money before hitting the next CAPTCHA.

 

I'm basically a data analyst at this point in my life, and boss makes the excel programs himself except his a fucking pharmacist, so everything is broken. Said he'd fix it over the weekend, I think its even more broken

I had a probably slightly irrational hatred of captchas in general, but yea the biggest impact of them is having to continually manage where you are in the captcha rotation. Back in the Z era it was a huge pain to accept and return hits until hitting a captcha in order to have a fresh captcha count for that first quick drop of .20s

Is there a certain way to setup up panda to catch HITS? A lot of these HITS Im seeing are old . Like the surveycommet that was goiing all last week.

TL;DR:

If you submit CIs at a rate worth $12/hr., CAPTCHAs are probably subtracting $1.06/hr. from your hourly.
