    Exactly. I worked late night at a furniture store over the holidays to earn the extra money to afford that expensive Wii.

    Then fat dude got the thank you letter. And Kiddo thought he'd bring expensive stuff all the time. I had to stop that mistake really fast.

    funny, I don't lie to my kid, probably on a super painful level of telling the truth when he wishes I would lie. But I made up some fancy lies as to why Santa brought an expensive gift that ONE TIME.

    And it looks awesome in pictures with the kids sitting next to this color coordinated pile of gifts taller than they are all excited to rip into them.

    I still remember the Christmas I had so many gifts I actually got tired of opening gifts. Best kid Christmas memory ever.

    Huh, got rejected on that Walmart hit with the following:

    This survey is for people who have previously purchased from Walmart. The survey taker must have used Walmart at least once. Worker showed an incredible dislike for Walmart so they clearly haven't used it.

    My parents always did this, but santa gifts don't go out under the tree until the night of christmas eve, so both?

    Same. Sorta. Our gifts are wrapped, then Santa leaves his gifts under the tree on Christmas eve unwrapped. Santa also doesn't bring really big expensive items, so she gets those from Mom and Dad. We live in a area that's somewhat poor and there are some kids that don't get the big things from Santa under the tree, so I feel bad for them wondering why they aren't good enough. I know one day she'll understand, but for now I'm letting her hang onto her last bit of childhood and Santa is alive and well even though she's 10.

    At our house santa brings stockings and books for the kids, as well as one-ish item for each kid, depending. We basically have settled on a gift giving situation where each kid gets one thing from mommy, one thing from daddy, one from both of us, one from her sister and then one santa gift (along with the stockings and books).

    This will be modified as things grow, but we wanted to emphasize the thoughtful giving aspect of things and less "ZOMG ALL THE BOOOOXESSSSS"

    I don't remember ever believing in Santa, but then I don't have very clear memories from early childhood anyway so I'm not actually sure if my parents acted like he was real or not. I don't think they did.

    My parents made a marginal effort, but I don't think I ever got anything from Santa if that counts. Certainly not anything on my list, anyway. Plus, we had older cousins who were very delighted to tell us that Santa wasn't real every time Christmas rolled around, in that delighted way that kids are fucking assholes.
