12/10 - Simple Sunday!

I hated that movie! The very beginning is a song about a girl who reads and how strange and weird it makes her. They literally chide her for reading as if it is a bad thing. It really made me mad as a young developing girl who would read a lot.

Pretty sure the point of that part was to make the viewers mad and hate Gaston more. That's the beauty of that movie. They do a good job of showing why Gaston is loved by the villagers but give you more than enough information to hate him and what he becomes.

 

Yeah but the whole town sings about how she's weird because she reads.

 

...but then she refuses to marry the dude who mocks her for reading, saves her Dad cause she's badass, and saves an entire house full of people turned into animate objects because of a shitty curse because she's intelligent and pretty at the time same- cause those 2 things can co-exist shockingly, and her prettiness is not actually her defining characteristic so much as her smarts and kindness.

I mean, if anything bothered me, it was the fact they make Beast kinda more attractive as a beast than as a prince and that they glorify falling in love with a rich dude who has a horrid temper, but it's ok he locked her in a fucking dungeon, nearly killed her daddo, and is generally rage prone- because he's a rich dude who also turns out to be a handsome prince.

I mean, Gaston be hella dead too. They don't put little skulls in his eyes when Beast tosses him for nothing.

 

Let's face facts. Belle's main choices are between a dude who became broken by too much stroking of his ego and a dude who became broken because of too much solitude. At least Beast shows that he is capable of change and a willingness to do so as opposed to Gaston who thinks his shit don't stink.
