I guess I've done a good job with the fire tonight. I'm sitting in my living room wiping sweat from my face.

I keep a window cracked in my bedroom and the door closed most of the time (I like sleeping in cold) and I keep walking in there to cool off. But I refuse to lower the fire because I don't want the heater turning on tonight, lol. I'm cheaping out. The wood was totally free.

Thats how I heat my house all the time. Living out in the boonies, surrounded by all these felled trees, heating my house has never been easier.

Growing up we had wall heaters (no fancy central heat and air for us!). In one house we had a fireplace in the front room and a Franklin stove in the back room. In the next house we had a wooden stove in the main room that my step dad built (ironworker/welder, he could build such things by himself). My parents REFUSED to allow us to turn on the wall heaters unless it was super duper cold and only then could we turn them on in the early morning to get dressed in front of (it would be so cold I didn't care if I saw my brother half naked in the mornings, I just wanted heat). But they gave no shits if we came home, chopped some kindling, and stoked a huge fire in any of the wood burning devices. From about 11 years old and up I made fires all the time by myself.

So I'm kind of addicted to them now.

We have no burn days here due to air quality so I can't have them all the time. Fortunately, today was a day I could burn

 

Thats crazy about the no-burn days. I guess I have heard of that, they do that in Phoenix(like an hour south of me). Do the air-police come around and monitor the neighborhoods to make sure nobody is getting warm without their consent? Lol

 

We all have natural gas service for heat, so unless there is a problem with your heater then yeah, no burning when the air quality is bad.

They do have some people who go around, but mostly it's reports from neighbors. So I've heard.

We also have the water police that drive around to make sure you're not watering on the wrong days or letting water run off into the street. But we are almost always in a drought, so I get that one.

The air quality can be shitty here, but it for sure is NOT caused by wood burning devices. We're just the easiest targets to go after as we don't generate money with our polluting ways.

Worst day in this Valley though is Fourth of July with all the fifty zillion BBQs going, but that's allowed, lol.
