6/7 - Whoa Wednesday

I can't help but wonder sometimes if folks just fail to take into consideration that all the requester knows about us is our ID and the work we submit. When they receive work they don't consider up to their standards (whether they're being fair to do so or not is another subject) it doesn't seem likely that they're sitting there thinking "ha ha, I'm going to screw this worker over and not pay them because I enjoy that worker's suffering." They're just thinking that the work they got, for whatever reason, doesn't work for them. It's not personal - and while of course you're going to have an emotional reaction in the moment, it's a waste of the worker's energy and time to spend any time taking the rejection personally. It's not about you - it can't possibly be about you, because they don't know you, not even your name. They're not out to get you or to make you feel bad.

(Again: I am not saying that requesters are always fair about rejecting work. That's a whole different topic and I've spent enough time on the soapbox today. *steps down*)

 

I get that it's hard to not take it personally when you get a rejection - especially if you are sure you weren't in the wrong. And for the amount of HITS she has posted, she is certainly not looking at every individual submission all by herself. I just assumed a computer would auto-check people who missed the ACs, reject them and send the others forward. Also when I have gotten rejections in the past, I've often been able to get a fair # overturned just by being friendly in my dispute email. Doesn't always work...but sometimes.

 

Right, like I said: you're human, of course you see the rejection and swear at your computer screen for a while or whatever. Just, from the level of vitriol in that review, it kinda sounded like that worker had been...stewing for quite a while, you know?
When, as you say, Laney, calm communication generally accomplishes a lot more than that kind of Facebook behavior.

yeah, my mom and step dad are up in wilmington (de) and I called them earlier to let them know that if they had to leave the house they should probably wear masks. They are 60+ year smokers, even though my step dad quit, it still counts. he's from Ireland and 70, if he was drinking beer at 5 I have no reason to disbelieve that he was also smoking, at least shortly after...

Pros:
Takes about as long as estimated. As far as tech issues, there was a bit of lag, which had me worried at first, but it wasn't really a problem.

Cons:
Qualifying workers are paid via bonus scheme. It's a reliable requester so I'm not that worried, but there's always a chance you don't get paid. Also pretty underpaid considering the material you're exposed to for the study.
